PALESTINIAN FAMILIES IN GAZA

People across Teesside have generously collected and donated
nearly nine thousand pounds to the suffering people of Gaza.
This money has been sent to the British Viva Palestina Aid
Convoy currently passing through Tunisia towards the Egyptian border with Gaza.
Following the extraordinary show of public support for the people of Palestine
on the streets of Middlesbrough on 17 January when two and half thousand people
marched to the town centre for a highly successful Rally, fund raising began in
earnest.
Alisha Ahmed, Viva Palestina’s Middlesbrough
Co-ordinator says “dinner donation events have been very successful, at
Ian Ramsey C of E School, and elsewhere. Meals were prepared with ingredients
and meat donated by K2 Cash and Carry and Kashmir Food Stores. Anyone wishing
to donate should contact me.”
In addition, collections have been made in mosques across
the region, organised by the Tees Valley Muslim Council, raising over
£6,000 for the British Aid convoy. The Viva Palestina Convoy of over 100
donated vehicles and over a mile long is packed with practical aid, including
medical equipment and supplies, food, and over a million pounds in donations,
is led by George Galloway, MP and Yvonne Ridley and supported by Stop the War
Coalition. The national chair of Stop the War Coalition, Andrew Murray, will
address a Public Meeting in Middlesbrough on Tuesday, 10 March at the St
Mary’s Centre at 7.00pm, and report on the progress of the Convoy.

Gaza. Teesside Against the War organised with organisations and people from

assembled at the Albert Park entrance on Linthorpe Road at 11am and then moved

in Central Gardens for short speeches from a rostrum relayed across the public
space near mima. Speakers included: Yvonne Ridley, a journalist who works for
Press TV and has recently visited Gaza; Ibrahim Hewitt from INTERPAL, a charity
that helps the people of Palestine; North-east MEP Stephen Hughes, a long time
